Supervision

Notice of Supervision form is used to verify the hours need to become licensed as a resident in North Dakota. Those hours needed are listed below.

Under the authority of NDCC 43-34-20(1)(d) and by rule under NDAC 66-02-01-11.1(1), supervised practice hours consist of pre-doctoral and/or post-doctoral experiences. The board voted in its full board meeting on February 20, 2017, to approve that supervised practice hours may consist of a mixture of pre-doctoral and post-doctoral hours to accomplish the supervised professional experience should legal counsel find this acceptable. This was deemed acceptable by Dave Schaibley, NDSBPE attorney, per memo dated June 7, 2017.

A total of 3,000 hours of supervised professional experience is required. These must include 1500 hours of supervised predoctoral experience, which can be one of the two types: either an APA or CPA accredited internship, or a 1500-hour board-approved internship.

They must additionally include 1500 hours of supervised experience which can be any one of three types: an APA or CPA accredited postdoctoral program, 1500 hours of board-approved supervised postdoctoral experience, or 1500 hours of board-approved additional supervised predoctoral experience.

Therefore, an applicant can meet the supervised experience requirements in one of six ways:

1500 hrs APA or CPA predoctoral internship + 1500 hrs APA or CPA approved postdoc
1500 hrs APA or CPA predoctoral internship + 1500 hrs board-approved supervised postdoctoral experience
1500 hrs APA or CPA predoctoral internship + 1500 hrs board-approved additional supervised predoctoral training experience
1500 hrs board-approved predoctoral internship + 1500 hrs APA or CPA approved postdoc
1500 hrs board-approved predoctoral internship + 1500 hrs board-approved supervised postdoctoral experience
1500 hrs board-approved predoctoral internship + 1500 hrs board-approved additional supervised predoctoral training experience
